Last movie watched: The Help
Last book read: Maskerade by Terry Pratchett
Listening to: Mutemath: Odd Soul
On the off chance that at least a few of you were paying attention, you might have noticed that I posted two days ago that I recently read ‘The Help,’ and today I have revealed to you all that I have now watched the movie version. For the rest of you who didn’t notice this, you’re in luck! Because I just told you anyway.
I could talk about the differences between the book and the movie. I could even trot out the old ‘the book is better than the movie’ (I’d be right) but frankly this has already been discussed in so many places that I’d rather sum up what I think of all of it in a few sentences. I will rely on you to count to make sure I don’t say too much.
If you are at all interested in history and the way things were, you should read this book. If you have particularly dense friends who don’t understand that yes, things were indeed different a few decades ago, you should make them read this book. (possibly with the aid of duct tape). I found it a good book that was well written, but hardly life shattering in terms of style or quality. If you want that, you go read Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.
So, what was the count? How many sentences did I expend on this topic?
--Five.
~Don’t be silly. It was four.
--That paragraph had five sentences.
~Were you not paying attention? The last sentence wasn’t about The Help at all. Four.
--Five. She was including it as an addendum to the topic, making it relevant.
~Four.
--If you’re going to be like that, you might as well get rid of the sentence about the duct tape, as it has no direct relevance to the topic either.
~Ooh, good idea! Three.
--No, that’s not—argh! Five.
Umm, we seem to be unable to reach a consensus. It’s either four or five—
~Three!
Sorry, sorry,
—three or five sentences. I hope that wasn’t too long or boring for you to sit through.
